AND...WE'RE BACK!

Whoa, ok people. I would just like to say that although I've been MIA for at least a month, I've been doing some serious livin' here in Minnesota.

If you care at all about the antics I'm getting into out here, this is the best place to follow along...as well as my Instagram account (@marykielar)!

So, let me break this down for you...on June 1st I was hired by Lakeland Public Television as a Multimedia Journalist/Reporter (MMJ for short- basically means I shoot, edit and write all of my stories each day!) In the weeks leading up to my start date on July 1st, I found an apartment, sorted out moving (well, let's be real I acted like I knew what I was doing but my angelic parents really lead the way...in every way), and made the 20 hour road-trip with my mama that I will truly never forget!

Hello, Bemidji!

Right now, I've officially survived two full weeks of reporting on my own, and I've got to say that I am learning so much about this new place that I now call home. I've also learned so much about my capabilities and have really become so much more confident in my skills. I couldn't be more thrilled.

The only thing that's currently killing me...is the fact that I absolutely cannot step foot into my lovely apartment without breaking a sweat. It's pretty much to the point that, when I get out of the shower...I can't tell that I've showered anymore. Gross, but hey I keep it real on here. So, I am just going to thank the powers that be for inventing ceiling fans and standing fans. I'm currently writing this being caressed by the gentle breeze of my standing fan. Bless that invention. Bless.

As I'm getting settled in here, I finally have had time to start getting into the gym and focusing on my eating. Meal prep is in full-swing again and let me tell you-after a day of carrying around equipment and sweating, there's no greater feeling than realizing my dinner is only minutes away from being ready. Oh, and wine. Wine is also grand.

Well, buckle up people, because I hope you're ready to take this wild Minnes-ooh-tan ride with me!

Yee-haw!

Happy First Birthday, EBM!

Wow! So this is very exciting for me...the first birthday of Eat and Be Mary has arrived!

I can't tell you all how much this means to me-and I am so thankful to have so many loyal readers. You all truly make it worthwhile. I know that I may not be as big as some of the other blogs out there right now, but the sky's the limit and I plan to make this blog bigger and better in its next year of cyber-life.

I want to say a special thank you to my aunt and uncle for letting me discover the possibilities that lie within the healthy cooking world, in their completely new (all white) kitchen! Without that time to experiment and play, I don't think I could have learned to cook as much as I did last summer!

To commemorate this momentous occasion, my sister got her nice camera out and we decided to have a little happy birthday photo shoot!

Here are some snapshots for your viewing pleasure:

Also, some other news...I GOT A JOB.
So, in just two weeks I'll be shipping it out to Bemidji, Minnesota to start my professional broadcasting career as an anchor/reporter for the Lakeland News team under Lakeland Public Television (PBS affiliate)! I look forward to continuing this blog there and finding out what healthy trends are going on in the Midwest!

Of course, it'll be easy to follow my adventures...so don't worry I'll be keeping you posted as much as I can!

Thank you again, from the bottom of my healthy heart. Happy Birthday to my little blog baby!

Attention, Foodies!

Goooood Sunday morning, everyone.

Hopefully, all you beautiful people are enjoying all that a lazy Sunday like this one has to offer.

As you know, I don't add a new front page post very often--only on very momentous and special occasions. This is one of those days...and I am so excited!

My dear friend, Torri Singer and her father have done something pretty remarkable...they've created an app with Apple (yes, the Silicon Valley giant) ! It's called "Snapetite," and it's basically a foodie's dream.

Look for this icon when searching in the app store

We all know someone (I'm that someone, definitely guilty of this) that's constantly clogging up our Instagram feed with pics of their meals. Whether it's a gourmet homemade creation, or a classy night on the town at a swanky restaurant...this person pretty much needs to document every last bit of their culinary adventures.

Snapetite is literally the answer to your prayers. Finally, there's an app dedicated solely to posting what you eat, drink, and snack on throughout the course of your days/nights.

It plays on the similar format that Instagram introduced, with the ability to filter, geotag and all that. Instead of "likes" you can give a post "noms," how clever is that?

One of my posts on Snapetite

I am so very proud of Torri's ambition and growing success with this app!

Here's to a new app dedicated to foodies everywhere. Happy "nom"-ing!

Congrats, Torr!

XOXO M

It conveniently breaks down what you're posting into categories...so goodbye confusion!

HELLO, 2015!

Well, I know it's been a few days and we're already rolling forward with a new year.

But I've been enjoying lots of time with my family and close friends--during what I know will be my last month-long break during the holidays.

I rang in the new year with my amazing parents and my sister, as well as my two best friends. Although it was a bit too real when the ball finally dropped (because graduation is now months away) it honestly was a relief that 2014 is over.

Of course a selfie was taken on NYE.

My 2 best friends

My beautiful sister, Hanna and I.

Yes, this past year was filled with some of the most incredible experiences. But, there were also plenty of things that I hope I never have to experience again. Through it all though, I am eternally grateful that I found another passion, which is writing this blog.

To all of you who have been loyal readers-thank you, from the bottom of my heart. It is my sincere hope that you have been able to better yourself or try something new that you've learned.

I know that I am so proud to be healthy and live well. It's allowed me to blend two passions: broadcasting and healthy living. Thanks to all those who have given me the encouragement and opportunity to share both of these things with the world.

If you have goals for yourself, try to stick with them. One of the greatest feelings in the world is knowing that you've succeeded at something you wanted to do.

Stay with me--I'm going to be with you for every step of the way.

As my mimosa suggests--cheers! This is your year.
